After 30 years of operating as the Mastery Company, we are shutting our doors. In its place, a new expression has been created in the form of the Dentist Entrepreneur Organization, or DEO. I will operate as President as we focus our work on emerging and small managed group practices to become larger thriving dental enterprises.
The background:
In business, transformation is changing the essence of different companies. Apple from computers to consumer gadgets, Google from advertising to driverless cars, Amazon from retail to cloud computing, Walgreens from pharmacy retailing to treating chronic illnesses, and so on.
Any fundamental transformation is the result of a number of elements, some internal, others external.
Internally, our company has four primary core values and transformation is one for them. We want “Transformation” to be a powerful driving force in our company. The other three of these primary core values are integrity, responsibility and making a difference. Now, our company has engendered our own transformation.
Our cultural definition of the transformation core value is that of an ongoing process, a discipline that must be constantly practiced, fueled by self-discovery and self-actualization. A process that enables us to see ourselves more clearly and the world in a new way. In other words, we hold as central, that personal transformation is the key to delivering transformation outside of ourselves. You can’t give it if you don’t have it.
Externally, the rapid and radical changes in the dental industry, changes which we have been directly addressing for over a decade, pushed us to see that Transformation was needed in our clients: A transformation from local leader to corporate leader, from hands-on manager to executive manager, from a family culture to a corporate culture, from a flat management structure to a hierarchical management structure.
As our clients were committed to growing large managed group practices we saw the need to offer support, methods, models, coaching, education and training, that would enable them to go further: beyond leading and managing a million or two-million-dollar dental practice with a dozen employees, to a twenty-five-million-dollar enterprise with over a hundred employees. From three – five locations to twenty locations. From being the only office in the executive suite to leading an entire senior executive team. This transformation brings new mind-sets. New skill sets. New ways of seeing oneself and the world.
Three years ago, we launched the Dental Entrepreneur Organization. It’s programs and processes were designed to enable dentist-entrepreneurs to build large managed group practices. Onsite programs, webinars, coaching calls, a private web-space for discussions, access to a vast number of resources and knowledge – all occurring in a highly supportive peer-to-peer high confidential ecology, where each member was genuinely committed to each other’s success.
The programs were a huge success – a vehicle for dentist-entrepreneurs to have their vision realized. And to deliver the DEO programs, we ourselves needed to transform. We went from 1 FTE and 2 part-timers, to 7 people including a partner and CEO. We changed our business processes, our culture and our communication structures. We went from caterpillar to butterfly.
Welcome to DEO. We are a leading-edge organization in the dental industry proven to enable dentist-entrepreneurs to achieve their authentic vision to build managed group practices. We support their courage and commitment to get there and we provide a powerful pathway to realize their vision.
